Hurt such
That received love
Felt undeserved.
Clutched but reluctant
Trudged toward;
Trust always lies to a sword.
Descending like exiled angels
Cardboard wings wear my wishes;
Once fetched from treetops
From river stretches fished
Separate like brittle things at the soft prod
Of fingertops.
The frosted pond of our love
Melting as the sun comes up
Even as we kiss’d,
Wind waking hiss’d.
