My breath holds
Like a death-threatened Redcoat
Who knows
How long it takes to reload.
Like my mind and how so
What her uncombed mirror shows;
A mirage clothesless and comely as a golden votive.
Aghast, impossible closeness
A collage; her canvas the haunt of dash and style
I hear stags clash like flagships at Actium.
By a collaborating moon’s pitying sanction
I am lifted from my tepid bath and taken behind the stanchion
Taken to that dreamful house; we have always lived in the mansion.
