Spring-heeled fiend seen
Every evening this week
This scabrous firebreather is wholly unlike.
Evades easily police truncheons but is not so subtle
As to avoid media discussion of his percussive ambuscades
The air he scales by means of springed-heels
Shoes whose wearer may leap many feet in a single bound
A feat which reputable persons will attest to having seen
After having downed a round or three
These leaps escape-wise help him out
After all, it is hard for anyone to outrun a cloud.
Even a fit hardsnouted copper
Who loves dropping crimmos and robbers with hard clouts and clobbers
Will have a mare trying to snare a fiend who
Easily as a fox could flee across a field can take to air.
