Below the sharks

Dark without abounding

I am with flounder lounging

Dark within, founded in my foundling heart

Black as a foundry chimney’s throat and windpipe.

Shark sighted from below

Idiot’s rendering of an angel

Strange, stumped, pale, crippled

Ill-equipped to ferry heavenly missives to trickster mankind.

Seen from where I am

In the damless places

My Atlantean vantage

Where Krakens and cracked galleons

Smashed galleys, triremes torn to timbers by a wide-eyed ramming prow

Or by a Roman corvus like a spined claw opening as an eagle soars

Downward, prey frozen by awe a moment

Too slow to paw, single second’s pause enough

Swift, claws stuffing into a flank

A shark as I spy it, undersided

Like a seal struck through by scythes.
