Innocence

What steals innocence:

Out from light and going hence,

That woods near home grow not as dense,

Evil sins of sense ,

Flensing feelings, naivety shearing,

Tearing up, no more with lacking knowing;

For what for what innocence foregoing.

With such haste, zeal’s spring, into slowing

Fast slow decline health’s winter snowing.

What steels innocence:

Good deeds, pure creeds, delights exceeding.

Quenching of need, measures of mead and meat bleeding

For all time, piper’s piping only rats leaving;

Flight of plagues, fright of taken names,

Leaders leading.
